Our workshop in Jepara

Every Tableindo piece is built to order in our workshop in Karanggondang, Mlonggo, Jepara, Central Java.

A town that works in wood

Jepara, on the north coast of Central Java, has been known for its woodcarvers and furniture makers for centuries. Workshops of every size fill the villages around the town, and its furniture ships to buyers around the world.

Ours is in Mlonggo, north of the town. We build furniture from legally sourced teak for importers, retailers and projects.

Process

How a piece is made

  1. A maker choosing a teak board from a steel rack of stacked boards, each numbered in chalk.

    Choosing the timber

    Boards are chosen for each piece from legally sourced teak.

  2. Hands fitting a joint into a teak frame on a worn workbench, a chisel, a marking gauge, clamps and curled shavings in front.

    Cutting & joinery

    Parts are cut to size and joined into the frame.

    Sanding & finishing

    Every surface is sanded by hand, then finished.

    Checking & packing

    Each piece is checked before it is packed for shipping.

Samples are built here

When you order a custom piece, we build a sample in this workshop and send you photos and video of it to approve before production starts.
